Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his future following another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's worst streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell of this nature with performances this poor.”
Jones stated, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
