Jurgen Klopp admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign that included a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, now holds roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured England's top flight in the previous campaign, but many fans who adore the manager would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he told his interviewer: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club in England. Which implies in case it's my former club...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, that means I might decide in a few years, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about what circumstances would have to unfold to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be in the rain through long matches; I'm glad to skip press conferences four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, yet sharing a meal with the team having a nice chat, I appreciate that. Success was frequent thus frequently a very good mood at the club. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears for example.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, praising him for the adjustments that won the league last campaign. They've been defeated four in a row in all competitions post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the notion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. An outstanding player. Ekitike, incredible player. They have a strong balanced team. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, and the effect at the club. The forward died tragically in a car crash together with his sibling this past summer.
“How do you replace a person like him? It goes beyond the player himself, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the team environment without him in it. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A devastating blow for his teammates also. Not a single person will ever use it for poor performances yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Handling this individually is challenging. Impossible.”
